What is Spinal Endoscopy?

Spinal endoscopy is a rapidly evolving technique that can be used to treat:

  • bulging discs
  • herniated discs
  • degenerative discs
  • desiccated discs

It is over 90% effective for the right indications. The recuperation time is minimal, and the complication rate is extremely low.  Spinal endoscopy is analogous to knee arthroscopy 20 years ago. Before that time,  we removed the entire meniscus (knee cartilage), through an open incision.

The advent of knee arthroscopy allowed us to remove only that portion of the meniscus that was torn, through a tiny hole.  Similarly, using spinal endoscopy, we can take out only that portion of the disc that is torn.  This can also be done through a small portal, less than 1 cm, instead of making an incision and detaching muscle and ligament from bone, thereby lengthening the recuperation time.
